A Mother's Message

Mother's Day is always a bittersweet day. It's a day many mothers feel most inadequate, and others feel most accomplished. It's a day mothers who have given up their babies feel guilty, a day mothers who have tried and been unsuccessful in conception and mothers who have lost babies feel grief and sorrow. No matter where your personal feelings lie in regards to motherhood, I hope this little message brings peace, hope, or joy to you.

A Mother's Letter
By Samantha Finch

It still doesn’t seem real sometimes, you and me. I often find myself staring at you in disbelief, trying to memorize every detail of you. After all, I’ve wanted this for so long, and finally I’m here, WE are finally here, together.

Our time together has been a whirlwind. Challenging, both mentally and physically, but also easy; loving you is easy.

As I am sitting here, thinking about Mother’s Day, I realized that there is so much I want to tell you, so much that I want you to know, so much that I need you to know. So, I thought “why not write these things down?” so someday I can remind you that you are best Mother’s Day gift, the reason I am a “Mom” in the first place.

I wished for you, and still do.

I have wished for these moments over and over again for years, to be a mom, to be your mom. I wished for you before you even existed, I’ve wished for you everyday I was carrying you in my belly, I’ve wished for you every day since, and I will wish for you everyday moving forward. Your life is a continuous answered wish.

I have loved you since the moment I found out about you

There has not been a single moment since that first thought “Oh maybe I am pregnant” that I have not loved you. In moments of pure bliss and in moments of fear, uncertainty, even in moments of frustration, there has not a single point in time that I don’t love you. You have been and always will be loved.

Your smile lights up my life

When you smile at me, I melt. I will do anything and everything to make you smile.

When you’re sad, I’m sad

As your mom, all I want is for you to be happy and content, so when you’re fussing, when you are upset, know that I recognize that, and I will do everything in my power to alleviate your pain.

 I could hold you forever

Just know that when I am holding you, and you feel safe and secure, so do I. I love being your safe haven, I hope I always am.

I’ll always be there for you when you need me

Even if the dishes are piling up, I have twenty deadlines to meet, I need to make dinner, I haven’t showered in 3 days, if you need me, I’ll be there. You are my priority.

I want you to know who I am and be proud to say I am your mom

Before you, I was (insert a volume of lifetime description here). Now, my first and most important role is as your mother, and I am still the person of life previous too. I don’t want to lose sight of who I have been in my life because I want you to know me apart from being your mother, I want to make you proud to say I am your mom.

You are capable of anything and I am always proud of you

Big or small accomplishments, they all matter, and I am proud of you for every one of them that you reach. Always remember that your potential is unlimited and that you are capable of changing the world.  I promise I will be right beside you as you do it.

I am growing with you

Truth is, I don’t have all the answers, and most of the time I am scared of messing up, but I am trying.  All I want to do, is keep you happy, healthy, and safe. I promise I will always do what I think is best for you. As you continue to grow, just know I am growing right alongside you, I am learning everyday just as you are too.

Thank you and I love you

On good days and bad days, and all the days in-between, I love you. I will always love you. Thank you for choosing me to be your Mom, you are the best part of my life.

Happy Mother’s Day to us, I wouldn’t be here without you.

Xoxo,

Mom

As you face Mother's Day this year, may you know of God's love for you. You are divine, you are destined and you are loved. Some of you may never know motherhood in THIS life, but motherhood will be yours in the eternities. Being a mother does not always mean biologically. You can be like a mother to many, and mean just as much to someone in need of your nurturing and love.

I am incredibly thankful for my 8 children, and thankful for God's blessing in keeping my missionaries safe. May you find the joy in your personal motherhood journey and know that God is mindful of you. He knows you, He sees you, and He loves you!

I love you! My thoughts are with all of you this Mother's Day and I wish you the very best day full of love, joy, peace and understanding of your divine purpose. Women are so important in God's plan and I am thankful to be blessed to be a mother.
