Today we are sharing our BEST laundry cleaning tip with you! It has been all the hype since the beginning of quarantine. Warning, it’s sort of gross but also so satisfying at the same time!
This isn’t a new concept, we have seen it popping up on different blogs, Pinterest, and on TikTok.
Laundry stripping is all about getting all the bacteria, dirt, build-up, etc out of whatever you are washing! It is crazy to see the before and after!
It is surprisingly easy, and who doesn’t love that? You’ll need a bathtub or Rubbermaid to fill up with hot water! Then you will add in washing soda, Borax, and the powdered detergent mixture.
The Mixture:
- 1/4 C Borax
- 1/4 C Washing soda
- 1/2 C Powdered detergent
What does each ingredient do?
- Borax: it helps to lift acidic stains and helps make fabrics whiter
- Washing soda: It is great for soaking all the hard-to-remove stains and helps to remove hard water build-up in the laundry! (Arm & Hammer has a great option!)
- Powdered detergent: It dissolves easier than the liquid options!
Beware! Laundry stripping is very powerful and shouldn’t be used on anything that needs to be washed gently or is considered delicate. If you are stripping colors, be sure to keep colors VERY similar so that they don’t bleed.
Directions:
Place the towels/clothing into the bathtub (or Rubbermaid) and cover with HOT water.
Mix the Borax, Washing Soda, and Powdered Detergent and sprinkle the mixture over the contents in the water.
Mix the towels/clothing around in the solution and let it soak for 4-6 hours. Be sure to mix once every hour for as long as it soaks. You might need to use something to stir around the mixture since the water will be very hot!
Drain the water and then transfer the contents to the washer. Wash and dry your laundry like normal, but there is no need to add more detergent.
